The 2024 gala will align with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit, and the dress code for the evening is declared as “The Garden of Time.”

The co-chairs for this prestigious event include some big names in the entertainment industry – Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and of course Vogue’s Anna Wintour. While the first three co-chairs have graced the Met Gala in the past, this will mark Chris Hemsworth’s debut appearance at the iconic ball.

The theme, “Garden of Time,” draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same title. Last year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” paid tribute to the legendary fashion icon, and this year’s “Sleeping Beauties” exhibit continues this tradition of honoring fashion’s historical and artistic significance.

The chosen theme holds significance beyond just setting the dress code, influencing the decor, and shaping the overall ambiance of the gala.

This year’s Met Gala is anticipated to be a grand affair, with “Sleeping Beauties” exhibit showcasing approximately 250 items spanning 400 years from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. The exhibition will be organized around three main “zones” – Land, Sea, and Sky.

While the Met Gala is a prominent fundraising event, it serves a more profound role in showcasing art as fashion and fashion as art.
