In comparison to the Trump-Harris debate, the Walz-Vance encounter stood out for its polished and respectful tone. The candidates maintained a cordial demeanor throughout the 90-minute event, focusing on policy differences rather than personal attacks.

Both candidates delivered their closing statements with sharp contrasts in vision and policy, offering voters a clear choice as the election draws near.

Governor Walz: “A Politics of Joy and Opportunity

Governor Tim Walz used his closing remarks to highlight the optimism and inclusive future that Kamala Harris’ campaign represents. Thanking viewers for staying engaged, Walz humorously acknowledged those who may have missed Dancing with the Stars, but emphasized the importance of their participation in democracy.

Walz credited Harris with building a surprising coalition, one that includes progressives like Bernie Sanders and conservatives like Dick Cheney, as well as cultural icons like Taylor Swift. This, he argued, was evidence of Harris’ ability to unite Americans from all walks of life under a common goal: a brighter, more equitable future.

“The idea that freedom really means something—not the freedom of government to be in your bedroom or exam room, but the freedom for you to make choices about yourself,” Walz declared, underscoring Harris’ focus on personal autonomy and economic opportunity.

Taking direct aim at Donald Trump, Walz invoked the former president’s controversial “American Carnage” inaugural speech, contrasting it with Harris’ message of hope and progress. He pointed out that Vance’s alignment with Trump means a continuation of policies that he believes have hurt middle-class Americans.

“Kamala Harris offers something different—a politics of joy and real solutions for the middle class,” Walz concluded, urging voters to choose a candidate who “centers you at the heart of that vision.”

Senator Vance: “We Need Change, We Need New Leadership”

In his closing statement, Senator J.D. Vance painted a much bleaker picture of the current state of the nation under the Biden-Harris administration. Citing his own experiences growing up in a struggling Ohio household, Vance focused on energy affordability and economic hardship, areas he argued have worsened under Harris’ policies.

“No American, whether rich or poor, should have to worry about turning on the heat on a cold winter night,” Vance said, highlighting what he sees as the devastating impact of current energy policies on working-class families.

Vance extended his critique to issues like rising food prices, housing affordability, and the opioid crisis, all of which he linked directly to the administration’s failures. In a sharp rebuke to Harris’ promises, Vance noted that she has already had three and a half years as vice president to address these issues, but instead, he argued, “her policies have made these problems worse.”

Vance closed on a hopeful note, praising the resilience of the American people and calling for a return to the leadership of Donald Trump. “We need change, we need a new direction,” Vance asserted, urging voters to support Trump for another term, claiming the former president had delivered results before and could do so again.

The debate, filled with sharp policy differences, leaves voters with a clear choice between the competing visions of the two candidates. With just weeks until Election Day, the closing remarks have set the stage for an intense final push by both campaigns.
