Olympics 2024: USA Starts Strong As Beyonce Introduces Team USA

After a goosebumps-eliciting introduction video by music mogul Beyonce, Team USA wins its first medal in Synchronized Diving since 2012

After Beyonce introduced Team USA with a 2-minute 30-second video, the team won its first medal on Day 1 of the 34th Summer Games.

Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon secured Team USA’s inaugural medal by claiming silver in the 3-meter synchronized springboard event on Saturday, July 27. Cook and Bacon scored 314.64 points over five dives, earning America’s first medal in this event since 2012. They finished behind China’s Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen (337.68 points) who won gold, and ahead of Great Britain’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen (302.28 points) who took bronze.

The goosebumps-eliciting video by Queen Bey featured some of the Team USA athletes with a huge fan base including the new-father Caeleb Dressel, flag-bearer LeBron James, and the fastest man and woman, Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson.

While Team USA looks forward to medals from these later in the games, it aims for more medals today (Day 1), July 27, as Katie Ledecky advanced to the 100m breaststroke finals after winning her heat. The finals are scheduled for tonight. 

Still in water sports, Team USA aims for gold medals in two swimming events today: the 4×100 meter freestyle relay and the 400-meter freestyle. Other finals on the schedule include women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard diving, cycling time trial, and rugby sevens.

Meanwhile, tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal will pair up for an important doubles match later this evening.
