Two DC public schools are among 365 schools across the country that have been announced as National Blue Ribbon Schools.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools is the United States Department of Education’s award program honoring high-performing schools and schools that are making great strides in closing achievement gaps.
The two DC schools that were awarded are DCBilingual Public Charter School and Payne Elementary School and DC Mayor Bowser congratulated these schools in an executive statement.
“We are thrilled to congratulate Payne Elementary and DC Bilingual School on being named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2024,” said Mayor Bowser. “We know that our public schools are a bright spot in the story of DC, and we celebrate these schools for their outstanding achievements and for earning this prestigious recognition – a testament to the hard work and dedication of our educators, students, families, and their entire school communities.” she said.
Aside from the DC schools, a dozen schools were awarded in the DMV area. Four schools were awarded in Maryland while the rest are in Virginia.
Chapel Hill Elementary, Worthington Elementary, Bells Mill Elementary, and Woodfield Elementary received the award in Maryland.
In Virginia, the award schools include Spring Hill Elementary School (Fairfax County Public Schools, Green Run Collegiate (Virginia Beach City Public Schools), Bethel Manor Elementary School (York County Public Schools), St. Andrew The Apostle School (Arlington Diocese), Central Academy Middle School (Botetourt County Public Schools), Gate City Middle School (Scott County Public Schools), T. Clay Wood Elementary School (Prince William County Public Schools), Saltville Elementary School (Smyth County Public Schools)
