Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage is making the jump to acting with her first major movie role ‘Water & Garri’ which will stream worldwide on Prime Video starting May 10, 2024.
This is a huge deal for the popular singer. Landing a global release on Prime Video means her acting debut will be available in over 240 countries and territories across the planet. Not only is Tiwa the lead actor, but she also helped create the film as an executive producer.
‘Water & Garri’ tells the story of Aisha, a fashion designer who returns to Nigeria after living in the United States for a decade. Back home, Aisha has to deal with family, reconnect with old friends and lovers, and navigate the changes and tensions in her native country.
The movie blends beautiful cinematography with storytelling by director Meji Alabi. And of course, it will feature new music by Tiwa Savage herself as part of the soundtrack.
This is a major accomplishment for the beloved singer-songwriter. After building an enormously successful career over the past 15 years, Tiwa is now bringing her talents to film and television. She’s already made an appearance in Beyonce’s ‘Black Is King’ visual album. But ‘Water & Garri’ marks her first starring role.
