While an exact release date was not provided, the news confirms Tems’ previous statements that her first full-length project would arrive this year, “is 1,000 percent coming out this year,” she said in a recent interview with Billboard. The buzz around ‘Born in the Wild’ grew after Tems teased one of the tracks during her performance at Coachella 2024.

Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, burst onto the scene with her featured vocals on Wizkid‘s 2020 smash hit “Essence.” She has since become a household name in Nigerian music, winning a Grammy in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance on Future’s “Wait for U” with Drake.

She has also been nominated for an Oscar for her co-writing of Rihanna’s hit song “Lift Me Up” from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack

Her discography is slimmer than some of her contemporaries, but she has already achieved significant milestones, including a Golden Globe nomination, and a Billboard record for the earworm “Free Mind,” which spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on the “R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay” chart.

The Lagos native began exploring music from a young age, drawing influences from Christian music, R&B, hip-hop, and Afrobeats artists like Burna Boy. Her distinct alto voice and self-produced tracks have earned collaborations with stars like Drake, Future, and Beyoncé.
