On October 1, 2024, Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido celebrated Nigeria’s Independence Day in style by launching his second collaboration with Puma at their flagship store in New York City. The event was a vibrant blend of culture and fashion, featuring a DJ set by ECOOL, traditional hors d’oeuvres from Lagos NYC, and curated cocktails by Martell.
The launch attracted notable figures, including April Pope from ADA Worldwide and Grammy-nominated producer Yung Willis, who discussed Africa’s cultural impact. Rolling Stone journalist Mankaprr Conteh moderated the panel, which included fellow Afrobeats artist Stonebwoy, highlighting the genre’s global influence.
Reflecting on his journey, Davido shared, “It’s different when people love your music, but it’s different when people buy your product.” His first Puma collection had been a success, prompting this expanded line featuring sneakers and slides. Sporting his Puma tracksuit, he expressed excitement over the partnership: “They [Puma] brought the bag!”
Puma and Davido first teamed up in April, 2023 to launch a Sportstyle collection that embodies his philosophy of uplifting others. This collection blends Nigerian culture with contemporary trends, featuring tracksuits, t-shirts, shorts, and hats in the vibrant green and white of the national flag. Designed for comfort and style, these versatile pieces can be worn on various occasions.
Inspired by his father’s philanthropic legacy, Davido emphasizes the mantra, “We rise by lifting others.” Each item showcases this message, encouraging fans to embrace both fashion and a spirit of support as they wear the collection.
Davido, one of Africa’s most successful music artists, has made a significant impact on the global music scene, particularly within the Afrobeats genre. His latest album, TIMELESS, released on March 31, 2023, marks his fourth studio album and showcases his continued evolution as an artist, and he has over 20 million followers on Instagram.
