The 9th edition of the Africa Fintech Summit is set to take place in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 2023. The biannual event which connects African fintech stakeholders with global fintech industry leaders for ecosystem-building engagements, is set to be held alongside the Spring Meetings of the World Bank/IFC.

The Africa Fintech Summit is Africa’s leading fintech event that uncovers the most prominent ideas, trends, insights and projects defining fintech in Africa through stakeholder-led conversations. Every year, fintech innovators, regulators, investors, tech companies, banks, telcos and other key players connect to share knowledge and unique perspectives, brainstorm solutions to industry issues, network and explore partnership opportunities.
Over the last eight summits, there have been more than 100 high-impact plenary, closed-door, and networking sessions, over 4000 in-person and virtual attendees and more than 200 panelists, all representing over $4.5B in private equity and venture capital funding. The summit’s impact is largely due to its unique format. The AFTS series is structured such that each year, one edition is held in Washington D.C. and another in an African city. So far, four African cities have each hosted an AFTS edition — Lagos (2018), Addis Ababa (2019), Cairo (2021), and Cape Town (2022).
The idea behind organizing one AFTS edition in the United States is simple: the African technology ecosystem thrives on support from local and foreign stakeholders. With founders, for example, also getting this external support from foreign investors and global fintech stakeholders through introductions and foreign Africa-focused programs, holding an AFTS edition in the United States, which happens to be one of the leading sources of investment and advisors to African founders, creates more opportunities for African innovators to connect with potential investors and partners.
AFTSDC2023 is set to continue the AFTS tradition of delivering carefully curated and relevant engagements that foster collaboration, inform regulatory framework design and deliver high-impact insights for growth.
