The afrobeats artist Simi recently released her new album Tbh (To Be Honest). She is one of the leading voices shaping the new wave of Afropop flooding international music charts. According to Apple Music, the Nigerian singer-songwriter Simi’s evolution in the half-decade since she first captured mainstream imagination with “Jamb Question” has been impressive. On Tbh (To Be Honest)—a project three years in the making—she contemplates love, gratitude, and betrayal with a set of edgy songs that run the gamut of emotions. Simi has achieved a top 5 record on the Billboard World Album Chart, and an MTV Africa Music Award nomination among other accomplishments. The 11-track TBH (To Be Honest) is written and composed by Simi herself. As Okay Africa describes, “To Be Honest manifests as the singer’s reintroduction and reinstating of boundaries, as her past albums reflected her life experiences at the time.”
Èkó House co-founders Yomi Ajao and Francis Odiase tell TANTV that selecting the artist Simi to headline the grand opening is very intentional because Simi’s music brings a calm and intimate vibe to a space. In addition to its delicious meals, Èkó House wants to be known for its music and lively ambiance, with soft music from a live band and its in-house DJ.
Yomi Ajao, co-founder of Èkó House says,
As one of the few Nigerian restaurants in the DMV area, we are excited to share the richness of Nigeria’s culture and cuisine with the Rockville community. We want to give the people of this community and the wider DMV region a chance to experience Èkó (Lagos) in Maryland. Rockville Centre has such a diverse array of culinary offerings and we are thrilled that with Èkó House, Nigerian food is now an accessible option. -Yomi Ajao, Co-Founder, Èkó House.
The menu at Èkó House includes well-loved Nigerian staples like Suya, grilled snapper fish, fried & roasted plantain (bole), Suya wraps, goat meat, and catfish pepper soup, Gizdodo, Asun, and the globally renowned Jollof rice. Also, present on the menu is house specials like Èkó rice, which is rice sauteed with smoked palm oil, mixed peppers, and goat meat bites, Èkó burger, and Èkó House special sauce, a tasty and secret sauce.
It’s been so wonderful to watch Nigerians/Africans who come in and are filled with appreciation and nostalgia in their eyes, and non-Nigerians relishing the food at Èkó House. We already have several customer favorites from the series of soft openings and plan to include a few more dishes on the menu. We’re particularly thrilled about the grand opening menu, which will include limited ‘choppables’ like Nigerian style meat pie, fish pie, puff puff, and so on…Says, Francis Odiase, co-founder of Èkó House.
The family-friendly restaurant houses an impressive collection of art pieces by Nigerian artists that are sure to captivate you. It is also a great place to watch live sports, host office retreats, and celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions.
