Under 24 hours after President Joe Biden reversed from seeking reelection and nominated Kamala Harris in his stead, she has gained over 2,000 endorsements from Democratic convention delegates including Nancy Pelosi and the Clintons.
In a statement released around 1:30 pm on July 22, Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote, “Today, it is with immense pride and limitless optimism for our country’s future that I endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. My enthusiastic support for Kamala Harris for President is official, personal, and political.”
She further praised Harris as a “champion for working families” and highlighted her fight for women’s right to choose. Pelosi, who has known Harris for decades, commended her strong values, faith, and commitment to public service,
Pelosi aligns with other delegates including Governor Wes Moore of Maryland who also praised and endorsed her. He wrote in his statement earlier on July 22. “I had lengthy conversations with both the President and Vice-President yesterday, and I offered my full support for Kamala Harris’ candidacy to both of them directly, Vice President Harris has the experience, record, vision, and wisdom to unify the country.
Pelosi’s endorsement was eagerly anticipated, given her status as a key powerbroker in the Democratic Party. Her support follows a significant influx of Democratic backing for Harris, with the Vice President already securing more than one-third of the pledged delegates needed for the nomination, according to The Associated Press.
As the Democratic Party rallies behind Harris, her campaign gains momentum, with Pelosi expressing “full confidence that she will lead us to victory in November.” This endorsement marks a significant step in the party’s transition and preparation for the upcoming presidential election.
The Democratic Party has seen a surge in support following Biden’s announcement, with reports indicating their single biggest day for online donations in years, raising over $50 million on July 21 alone.
