Former President Donald Trump surrendered to the Fulton County Jail on RICO charges related to alleged illegal interference in Georgia’s 2020 election. The charges come with a $200,000 cash bond.
Trump’s post on his Truth Social account where he criticized District Attorney Fani Willis, pointing to violent crime rates in Atlanta. Departing from New Jersey, Trump’s motorcade arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, prompting closures of nearby roadways in anticipation of his arrival.
Upon reaching Atlanta, Trump was officially booked at the Fulton County Jail. Jail records indicated that Trump weighed 215 pounds, marking a noticeable weight loss since his last publicly released physical during his presidency.
Soon after, Trump posted bond and was released. In a statement, he described his arrest as a “travesty of justice,” maintaining his long-held stance that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged.”
In related news, a hearing has been set for September 18 for Jeffrey Clark, a former Department of Justice official, regarding moving his Fulton County case to federal court. Meanwhile, Trump’s co-defendant, Kenneth Chesebro, is scheduled for trial on October 23, 2023.
