Stevie Wonder Honored with Ghanaian Citizenship
The legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder was honored Ghanaian citizenship in a ceremony presided over by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Wonder takes the Oath of Allegiance and receives a certificate of Ghanaian citizenship
“I guess it’s just the lineage I felt Ghana, I felt my civilisation was there and I was there where it began. So, I thank all of you so very much. I always say this is the beginning, [the best part of the rest of my life got to do God’s promised],” he stated.
The “Beyond the Return” initiative focuses on several strategic areas, including positioning Ghana as a top destination for tourism and investment, simplifying travel, and improving legal frameworks for diaspora integration. These efforts include visa reforms, investment incentives, and cultural exchanges to ease the integration process for those moving to Ghana.
Wonder’s trip is a profound cultural statement, underscoring the ongoing discussions about diaspora Africans reclaiming their ancestral roots. It reflects a broader trend of African Americans moving to Africa for cultural and economic opportunities, as well as to find a community that offers a stark contrast to their experiences in the West.
