Recently, Mielle Organics has been the center of controversy after claims surfaced on social media accusing the brand of making products that cause hair loss and have cancer-causing ingredients. These allegations gained momentum following a TikTok user’s mention of a 2022 lawsuit that alleged the presence of harmful chemicals in the company’s hair care products and a failure to warn consumers adequately.

The situation escalated as more social media users shared personal stories of experiencing hair loss, breakage, and scalp irritation after using Mielle Organics products. The brand’s Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil, in particular, received significant attention and criticism.

To address this issue, Mielle Organics made a post on its Instagram account. “We understand that recent questions about our brand and products have caused questions. We hear you, and we want to reassure you that our dedication to product quality and consistency remains unwavering. It is important to note that none of the negative experiences alleged have been medically confirmed as caused by our products.

“Our products are safe. Internal and third-party independent labs undergo rigorous and frequent testing to ensure product safety and efficacy. We can confirm that there have been no formula changes to any Mielle products since joining P&G in March 2023. Mielle Rosemary Mint Oil and Shampoo have been dermatologically tested for skin safety, and no indications of irritation or sensitization were found.”

“Recently there have been inaccurate statements on social media about our product safety. To clarify, no lawsuit has been filed against Mielle, and we are not involved in any active litigation.

In response to concerns about hair shedding, Mielle Organics highlighted that daily hair loss ranging from 50 to 100 strands is considered normal by the American Academy of Dermatology Association. Factors such as hormonal changes, medication, stress, and poor nutrition can also contribute to increased hair shedding.

Monique Rodriguez, the founder and CEO of Mielle Organics, also addressed these concerns personally via a video posted on her Instagram. She reaffirmed her continued involvement in the company and commitment to its original vision while reassuring customers about the safety and consistency of Mielle’s products.

“From the very beginning, authenticity and transparency have been at the core of what I do,” said the CEO. “Over the years we have had the privilege of serving millions of customers who have experienced wonderful results using our products…So when I made the decision to partner with P&G it was driven by my vision to take Mielle to new heights and become a global beauty brand. That vision remains as strong as ever today.”

“So I want to be crystal clear that my involvement in Mielle, still as a CEO, is a personal choice,” Rodriguez said. “I am deeply committed, staying actively involved in every aspect of the brand…I poured my heart into every detail because this is my passion. Our products are created with healthy ingredients and they are formulated to deliver safe and effective results…If you have any doubts, I encourage you to explore our labels. From 2019 to 2024, you will see that there has been no formula changes.”
