American musician Jidenna Theodore Mobisson, known mostly by his first name, Jidenna, has articulated his words beautifully–as he does his lyrics–that Kamala Harris is a bridge of hope for the black Diaspora around the globe considering the influence of the U.S.

The Grammy-nominated multi-platinum rapper & ‘Classic Man’ spoke at the African Diaspora for Harris mobilization call alongside other influential speakers including Bozoma Saint John. Jidenna spoke on the need to connect Africans at home and the diaspora in support of the Harris – Walz campaign.

It’s a great honor to follow in the footsteps of esteemed colleagues and friends like Bozoma Saint John, with whom I’ve had the privilege of collaborating on various impactful projects. Our shared mission as members of the diaspora is to serve as bridge builders and ‘paratroopers’. I like today we were dropped here, to clear the ground, for future generations, just as our parents did before us. Now we know that is our mission as well.

One of the routes and strategies that’s often underestimated is the role of continental Africans. Remember that they were just as loud when President Barack Obama was running for office.

So, I implore us to reach out to people back home and tell them to make noise about the campaign. This is about winning And I’ll tell you for the first time in years. I feel like the Democratic party is finally realizing what the Republican party has realized for years.

As an artist. I know that we compete every day with anybody. A plumber who might make more noise than me as an artist has the Lion share of the public’s attention. So we have to make noise and cannot do this with just the 42 million African-Americans and 2 million diaspora members in the U.S. We need the voices of 1.1 billion Africans on the continent to join us

It is therefore important to reach out to your family and friends back home encouraging them to make noise. Take the time to explain that beyond policy; it’s about uplifting the global African community and securing a better future for us all. I think our collective goal is to raise the standard of living for those uh of people of color around the world.

When they see their family members proudly supporting Kamala Harris, they will see themselves in her and be inspired to act. This is an underutilized strategy, but one with immense potential to mobilize support.

Furthermore, we need to bridge the conversations happening in our communities both abroad and in the U.S. Issues like maternal mortality rates, for instance, should not be siloed but should foster global dialogue and collaboration. By uniting our voices and efforts, we can drive meaningful change and elevate the standard of living for people of color worldwide.
