On February 7, Lebron James made history in the NBA. Lebron James is now the title holder for the biggest scoring record in NBA history.
The biggest scoring record in NBA history was originally held by legendary basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who set the record back during his career in 1984 and then continued to add on to it until his retirement from the NBA in 1989. Since Lebron James Debut into the NBA in2003-04 season, James has strived and worked towards the standard and original set that was created by Jabbar in 1984. Over his 20 seasons in the NBA, Fans and teams that he was on watched him excel and flourish as he continuously began to put double digit points on the board for every game, he’s played besides only 8 games in his entire NBA Career.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver congratulated James on the accomplishment, stating: “It’s a towering achievement that speaks to his sustained excellence over 20 seasons in the league. And quite amazingly, LeBron continues to play at an elite level and his basketball history is still being written.”
With this accomplishment, James has now joined an elite group of previous record holders that was started NBA Alumni and legends such as Dolph Schayes and Wilt Chamberlain. Other famous names that are a part of this elite group include Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, and even the late Kobe Bryant.
During a brief ceremony at the center of court during the game, James expressed just how much it meant to him to finally reach this moment. He stated during the short ceremony: “To be in the presence of such a legend and great as Kareem, it means so much to me. It’s very humbling,”
Jabbar also had a few words for James’s accomplishment as well, stating his career over the past 20 years has an indefinable essence that could only be called leadership.
