King Charles III is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the public following his cancer diagnosis. The monarch stated that he has been reduced to tears by the messages he has received from people since his diagnosis.
On January 17, 2024, Buckingham Palace revealed King Charles would receive treatment for an enlarged prostate.
“In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” Buckingham Palace announced in a statement.
In his message of thanks, King Charles emphasized the positive impact of sharing his diagnosis on public understanding and shedding light on organizations supporting cancer patients and their families.
“As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement,” – King Charles.
During his weekly audience with the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace, for the first time since stepping away from public duties to focus on his treatment, the monarch expressed his gratitude, stating,
“I’ve had so many wonderful messages and cards,” “It’s reduced me to tears most of time.”
King Charles’s openness about his diagnosis has not only garnered widespread support but has also raised awareness about British charities dedicated to cancer. The King was also moved by the attention given to these charities, many of which he supported for years.
While King Charles has temporarily stepped back from public-facing duties during his treatment, he remains engaged in state business and official paperwork. The royal family has united in expressing gratitude for the kindness and support received from the public.
In his first public comments about his father’s diagnosis, Prince Harry mentioned visiting King Charles and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to spend time with him.
At a Salisbury Cathedral event, Queen Camilla also shared that her husband is doing “extremely well under the circumstances” and acknowledged the uplifting impact of public messages. Despite health challenges, King Charles III continues to receive widespread support.
