Harris picks Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate presidential election. In a heartfelt post on social media Harris highlighted Walz’s deep convictions and personal experiences that resonate with middle-class families across the nation.

“I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @walzforgovernor to be my running mate,” Harris wrote. “One of the things that stood out to me about Tim is how his convictions on fighting for middle-class families run deep. It’s personal.”

Harris detailed Walz’s humble beginnings in a small town in Nebraska, where he spent summers working on his family’s farm. After losing his father to cancer at 19, his family depended on Social Security survivor benefits to make ends meet. At 17, Walz enlisted in the National Guard, serving for 24 years. He used his GI Bill benefits to attend college, eventually becoming a teacher. His career in education included roles as a football coach and advisor of the Gay-Straight Alliance.

Harris emphasized how Walz’s background has shaped his political record. “He worked with Republicans to pass infrastructure investments. He cut taxes for working families. He passed a law to provide paid family and medical leave to Minnesotan families

Walz’s legislative achievements include making Minnesota the first state to provide constitutional abortion protections after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. As an avid hunter, he also passed a bill requiring universal background checks for gun purchases.

“What impressed me most about Tim is his deep commitment to his family: Gwen, Gus, and Hope,” Harris added. “Doug and I look forward to working with him and Gwen to build an administration that reflects our shared values.”

“Whether you are a supporter, a volunteer, a donor, a member of our staff, or your name is on the ticket: you are part of the people-powered campaign that is going to defeat Donald Trump. We are going to build a great partnership. We are going to build a great team. We are going to win this election.” She shared.

The selection of Walz brings a mix of military service, educational background, and legislative experience to the Harris campaign, aiming to appeal to a broad spectrum of voters as they gear up for a vigorous election battle.
