It’s been one year since the diaspora joined the #endsars movement that began in Nigeria. To memorialize the day, here’s a gallery from the Washington DC protest, October 2020.
We will never forget the lives lost at the Lekki toll gate, Lagos and the voices of the global change-makers at home in Nigeria and those in the global diaspora. In solidarity, they marched to their respective Nigerian embassies chanting for a call to end police brutality, corruption and bad governance in Nigeria. The demands were laid out in very simple messaging known as the #5for5.
Today, the question remains, “has there been any progress?”.
To memorialize the day, Nigerian celebrity activists called for a peaceful protest to take place at the Lekki toll gate with protesters urged to remain in their cars. Activists from the feminist coalition are involved, music artist known as ‘falzthebahdguy‘ is one of the most prominent activists at the frontlines, journalist and political commentator Ireti Bakare known as ‘Sisiogelagos‘ is also an active frontline voice, Aisha Yesufu is of course a leading voice and several others.
