DYRS, Mayor Bowser To Celebrate Back-to-School Day With Families

This Friday, August 23, Mayor Muriel Bowser will celebrate the new school year with families at the Fields at the Robert F. Kennedy campus (RFK). The Back-to-School Day will provide comprehensive resources for students and families preparing for the upcoming school year.

“We want families to come together and get excited about the new school year,” said Mayor Bowser. “This is an opportunity to make sure you’re ready for day one and to connect with the people and programs that will help our young people be successful throughout the school year.”

The event, organized by the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) and supported by multiple District agencies and community partners, will offer free backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, and immunizations. Families can also enjoy food, refreshments, and live entertainment.

Throughout the year, DYRS operates Achievement Centers offering free after-school and out-of-school activities for youth aged 14 to 21. These centers provide vocational training and work-based learning experiences for those aged 18 to 21.
