President Joe Biden has officially proclaimed June 2024 as National Caribbean-American Heritage Month, celebrating the contributions and diverse cultures of millions of Americans with Caribbean heritage. The proclamation was made May 31, 2024.

In his proclamation, Biden highlighted the significant role Caribbean Americans have played in shaping the United States, from the nation’s founding to the present day. He emphasized their contributions as leaders in various fields, including healthcare, education, sports, arts, community organizing, entrepreneurship, and public service.

The President specifically recognized several Caribbean American officials serving in his administration, including Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Biden also outlined his administration’s efforts to support Caribbean Americans and strengthen ties with Caribbean nations.

These initiatives include:

  • Investing over $275 million in infrastructure projects in the U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Launching the Puerto Rico Economic Dialogue and allocating more than $140 billion in federal obligations to boost the island’s economy
  • Partnering with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to combat firearms trafficking
  • Working to restore stability and security in Haiti
  • Supporting the reauthorization of the HOPE/HELP trade preferences program for Haiti

The President called on all Americans to join in celebrating Caribbean American history, culture, and achievements throughout June.

This proclamation continues the tradition of recognizing June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month, which was first established in 2006 following a resolution passed by Congress
